Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that 33% of the cases in the High Courts of Sri Lanka are cases related to child abuse and rape.
The minister also said that there are about 24,700 cases related to child abuse and rape filed in other courts across the country.
“Out of the 29,700 cases in the High Courts, 9,800 are estimated to be cases related to child abuse and rape which is a 33%. We should be ashamed of this situation. Laws alone can’t discipline a society. Everyone should work together to create a better society,” Minister Rajapakshe said.
