Committee appointed to investigate death of woman at National Eye Hospital

Director of the National Eye Hospital, Dr. A.R.M. Thowfeek says that a committee has been appointed to investigate the death of a woman during Cataract surgery.

He says that the committee appointed consists of specialists.

The 34-year-old mother of two, Himali Weerasinghe, who was a resident of Boraluketiya in Kosgoda, died in surgery at the National Eye Hospital.

Two weeks ago, she had undergone Cataract surgery at the Colombo National Eye Hospital.

Her relatives say that she had been informed by the hospital clinic that she would have to go into surgery immediately once again, as the lens had not been inserted properly.

The relatives claim that the woman died during the surgery.

However, Director of the National Eye Hospital, Dr A.R.M. Thowfeek says that Cataract surgeries are ongoing.
