The Court of Appeal today (March 17) dismissed without hearing the writ petition filed by Mr. Deshabandu Tennakoon, which sought an interim order to prevent the execution of an arrest warrant issued by the Matara Magistrate’s Court in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in Weligama, Matara in 2023.
Following the dismissal, the bench directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take immediate steps to arrest Mr. Deshabandu Tennakoon and produce him before the appropriate judicial authority.
The petition filed by Mr. Deshabandu Tennakoon was initially taken up by the Court of Appeal on March 12.
The decision was delivered this morning by a bench comprising Acting President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Mohammed Laffar Thahir, and Justice Sarath Dissanayake.
