The State Trading Corporation has announced that the distribution of the rice stocks ordered by the government, will begin today (Jan. 01) through Lanka Sathosa and Cooperative outlets.
Chairman of the State Trading Corporation, Ravindra Fernando says that the first consignment, containing 780 MT of rice, has already arrived in the country and 200 MT of rice will be sold through Lanka Sathosa outlets.
The Chairman further notes that Tenders have been called and finalized for an additional order of 26,000 MT of rice.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Customs reported that 80,000 MT of rice ordered by the private sector have already been released to the market.
