Electricity tariffs slashed from midnight

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has approved the revision of electricity tariffs with effect from midnight today (04). 

The overall tariff reduction is 21.9%, the PUCSL said. 

PUCSL chairman Prof. Manjula Fernando announced this during a press briefing held in Colombo today (04) to deliver its decision on the electricity tariff reduction proposal mooted recently by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

Electricity tariffs will be reduced by the following percentages :

  • Less than 30 units : 33%
  • Between 31 – 60 units : 28%
  • Between 60 – 90 units : 30% 
  • Between 90 to 180 units : 24%
  • Over 180 units : 18% 
  • Religious places : 33% 
  • Hotels and industrial sector : 18%
  • General-purpose category : 23%
  • Public sector : 22%
  • Street lamps : 20%
