Extra week to file income tax returns (Video)

Published

on

An additional week has been granted from November 30 to file income tax returns.

Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said this in response to a question raised by MP J.C. Alawathuwala.

The State Minister further said that no fine will be charged during this period.

Question – “Income tax refund submission software is inactive. We don’t know whether this is intentional. These activities were supposed to be completed by yesterday, November 30. Since this is inactive, there are many people who could not submit this refund. I think we would like to know the real situation behind this. Is this something done on purpose or is there congestion?”

Answer – “Everyone was supposed to submit their income reports by yesterday. There has been a congestion in this software yesterday. Personal income tax, company tax, partnership tax, etc. need to be filed. This is not an act of sabotage but an issue with the software. As a solution, we are giving another week’s time. When the people submit the returns during this period, it will be considered as having been submitted on November 30.”
