Four Cabinet Ministers including Harin to resign!

Four Cabinet Ministers have decided to withdraw from their ministerial portfolios and launch a new political movement in the near future.
Deshaya newspaper reported that Lands and Tourism Minister Harin Fernando has also decided to resign in order to commence the new movement.
It has been decided to launch this new political campaign in conjunction with the “National Movement for Social Justice” which is led by former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and veteran journalist Victor Ivan.
Mr. Jayasuriya and Mr. Ivan had recently delivered a lecture to the Cabinet ministers regarding their national movement.
It has already been decided to form the new political movement with a national policy aimed at creating a political, economic and social transformation.
It has been proposed to include civil movements, trade unions and participants of the ‘Aragalaya’ in this campaign.

‘Manna Ramesh’ extradited to Sri Lanka

Notorious criminal Ramesh Mihiranga, alias ‘Manna Ramesh’, was brought to Sri Lanka from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake this morning (May 07).

A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had left for Dubai to escort ‘Manna Ramesh’ back to Sri Lanka following his arrest by the Dubai Police around 2 months ago.

Earlier, an Interpol Red Notice was issued over the arrest of ‘Manna Ramesh’, who was wanted over several crimes including multiple murders in the Avissawella area.

He will be detained by the CID for further questioning after being produced before court.

Sri Lanka’s visa fees to be unchanged

A cabinet decision was taken today (May 06) to maintain the existing $50 fee for a 30-day visa for foreigners visiting the country, the PMD announces.

It has also been decided to continue offering free visa services to citizens of 07 countries: India, China, Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, visa issuance responsibility will be handled solely by the Dept. of immigration & Emigration, the PMD adds.

180 passports found dumped in a drain!

A bag with 180 passports has been found in a drain in the Maharagama area.

According to reports, the passports had been obtained by a foreign employment agency operating in the Maharagama area, promising foreign employment.

It is reported that the owner of the agency had fled the area, after duping a number of people and swindling nearly Rs. 260 million.
