The three-month extension given to Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickramaratne for the second time will end today (09), Police headquarters sources said.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe gave this service extension effective from June 09.
Mr. Wickramaratne, who was appointed as the 35th IGP of Sri Lanka in November 2020, was scheduled to retire on March 25. However, President Wickremesinghe gave him a three-month service extension.
After the completion of the first service extension, the second service extension was given for another three months with effect from June 09.
Police sources said that no decision has been taken yet whether to give another extension of service to Mr. Wickramaratne or to appoint another officer as the IGP.
