The Department of Immigration and Emigration has suspended an officer for allegedly entering the information related to another person’s foreign travel ban under the passport details of former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

A press release issued by the Department said investigations have been launched by the Criminal Investigations Department and Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) in this regard.

The Department said MP Aluthgamage had been prevented by Immigration officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake from travelling overseas on Friday night (10) citing a travel ban.

It has been revealed that the information included under the MP’s passport was that of another individual and the Department extended an apology to Mr. Aluthgamage over the incident.
