The body of a one-day-old baby boy was found on the beach of Muthupanthiya, the Arachchikattuwa Police said.
A group of youths who were playing cricket on the beach and another group of people visiting the beach had noticed the body of the baby on the beach last evening (24) and had informed the police and the Coast Guard Naval Camp.
Police said that this could be a homicide as well.
The Arachchikattuwa Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, it was reported that a 36-year-old woman who was in critical condition after giving birth was arrested by the police since there was no baby to be seen. She was admitted to the Chilaw General Hospital.
