Political sources said that several discussions to select and prepare presidential election candidates were held centered at Buddhist temples.
Accordingly, a discussion about a presidential candidate was held at the temple of Elle Gunawansa Thera.
It was reported that the discussion was held to field former Public Utilities Commission Chairman Janaka Rathnayake as the candidate.
Meanwhile, more discussions were held at the Medagoda Abhayatissa Thera’s temple and at the temple of Madille Pannaloka Thera to field Sarath Weerasekera as the presidential candidate.
It was reported that Mr. Weerasekera, Anuradha Yahampath and others representing the nationalist camp took part in the discussion held at the Madille Pannaloka Thera’s temple.
