The Kandy Esala Perahera Festival commenced today (Aug. 05), with the auspicious ‘Kap’ planting ceremony at the four main Devalayas.
The ‘Kap’ planting ceremony, marking the beginning of the festival, took place at 4.10 am today at the Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama and Pattini Devalayas.
After completing the five internal peraharas of the Devalaya’s, the first Kumbal Perahara is scheduled to parade the streets on August 10.
The Randoli Perahera will begin on August 15 and the final Randoli Maha Perahera will be held on August 19, followed by the water-cutting ceremony in Getambe the next day.
The Esala Perahera festival in Kandy will come to an end after the noon Perahera street tour on August 20.
