Maliyadeva girl who donated organs gets three ‘A’s

The 19-year-old Vihagana Ariyasinghe of Kurunegala Maliyadeva Girls’ College, whose organs were transplanted to seven other patients after she was pronounced brain dead, has obtained three ‘A’ passes in the commerce stream of 2022 A/L Examination.

She has obtained three Distinctions for economics, business studies and accounting and has secured the 176th position in Kurunegala District and the 2,256th position in the country. Her Z-score is 1.7.

Vihaghana had voluntarily donated her organs. Her heart and lungs were transplanted to one patient who is an anesthesiologist in a critical condition due to heart and lung failure. It was a special surgery since it was for the first time that such an organ transplant was done at the same time in the country.

In addition, the two kidneys taken from her were successfully transplanted to two critically ill patients, one of which was successfully transplanted to a patient who was receiving treatment at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital. The liver and eye membranes taken from her have also given a new life to three other people.

While undergoing treatment at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, she passed away on March 22, giving a new life to seven others.
