Measures are being taken to impose a minimum speed limit on expressways, Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardana said.
Speaking during the Cabinet briefing today (Jan. 30), he said that attempting to overtake slow-moving vehicles has also been identified as a reason for accidents on the expressways.
Noting that it is important to set a minimum speed limit to prevent such accidents, the minister said a discussion with relevant experts had been held and the new rules and regulations will be published in a gazette notification as soon as possible, based on the expert committee’s report.
