Importing coconut milk, coconut flour, and frozen coconut kernels equivalent to 200 million coconuts is permitted solely for re-export purposes, authorities say.

A statement by the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Rural Infrastructure Development has clarified the matter.

It has also clarified claims made over the MOP fertilizer donated by the Russian government. The ministry notes that 50% of the donation, which is equivalent to 27,500 MT has been reserved for coconut plantations. However, according the Coconut Research Centre has recommended to use it as a fertilizer mix with Urea and Eppawala Rock Phosphate fertilizer instead of using it directly.

Therefore, 50 kilos of this mix has cost the Fertilizer Corporation Rs. 9,000, which has agreed to provide a 50kg pack at Rs. 4,000, the statement further notes.
