The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has reported that over 50 elephants have died this year due to collisions with unauthorized and unprotected electric fences.

A statement from CEB’s media spokesperson, A.K.D. Parakramasinghe, confirmed that the board has implemented several measures to address this illegal activity.

They have also sought the public’s cooperation to help conserve wild elephants and urges them to inform them of any unprotected and unauthorized power lines by calling the numbers 0112 118767 or 1987.
