Overseas travel ban on ‘Evolve’ owner
An overseas travel ban has been slapped on Mr. Mohammad Ajmal, the owner of the Evolve College of Education.
He faces charges of financial fraud after issuing fake certificates for caregiving courses, which is currently a popular choice among many seeking employment opportunities overseas.
The private educational institution is a well known entity in Bambalapitiya.
Taking up the case yesterday (Dec. 04), the Colombo Additional Magistrate issued this order after considering around 45 complaints lodged with the Bambalapitiya police in this regard.
The police had sought an overseas travel ban, citing that they are unable to locate the suspect, who has been appearing under several names.
Meanwhile, the court also issued a foreign travel ban against a resident of Giriulla, who had worked as a counselor in this institute and is currently on bail.
Police have stated that a large number of youth have fallen prey to this institute, who had garnered mass publicity via Facebook, stating they issue NVQ 4 level certificates. Police have added that a recent diploma ceremony was also held at the BMICh in Colombo, with politicians such as Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Shantha Bandara in attendance.
Further investigations are being conducted on the instructions of Bambalapitiya Police Chief Inspector – Sampath Padmalal.
