Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has called for a rapid internal audit of the Ministry of Sports’ financial allocations, focusing on transparency and accountability.
While expenditure data exists, there has been no evaluation of progress linked to the allocated funds, she emphasized.
Speaking to Ministry officials on September 27, Dr. Amarasuriya highlighted concerns over wastage and urged the reduction of spending on non-essential events.
She also directed the formation of institutional committees to tackle fraud and the development of programs addressing abuse in sports.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister’s Secretary Mr. Pradeep Saputantri, the Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Mr. K. Maheshan, and other senior officials from the Ministry.
