The Kandy Division Criminal Investigation Bureau has confiscated a BMW and a Pajero jeep, valued at approximately Rs. 60 million, from the residence of former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena’s son-in-law in Aniwatta, Kandy.

The seizure took place after a tipoff received by the SSP in charge of the Kandy Division.

Police have said that the vehicles were seized after no one in the house was able to make a legal claim with regard to them.

They add that Abeygunawardena’s son-in-law, who also has car sale in the Mahaiyawa area, has held a prominent position at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority during Abeygunawardena’s tenure as Ports and Shipping minister.

Police suspect that these vehicles were illegally released from the SLPA.

They will be presented to the Government Analysts for further investigations.
