Priyamali’s financial fraud: Two actresses to be arrested?

It was reported that two popular actresses will be arrested in the near future based on the evidence received in connection with Thilini Priyamali’s financial fraud.

Police sources said that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has already interrogated one of the actresses.

One popular actress has been questioned over the audio recording kept by Priyamali which contained conversations of sexual nature but she has said that she has no recollection of these audio recordings.

Meanwhile, Borelle Sirisumana Thera, who was arrested in connection with this fraud, has said that he visited a certain businessman at the request of Priyamali and influenced him to deposit Rs.750 million at Priyamali’s company.

The police said a separate investigation will be conducted on Sirisumana Thera in connection with Priyamali’s gold smuggling activities.

Meanwhile, it has been found that Janaki Siriwardhana, a Director of Krrish Group, who was arrested and remanded on charges of aiding and abetting Priyamali, is directly involved in these fraud activities.

The CID has found that Priyamali’s financial transactions had taken place inside the Krrish building premises in Colombo Fort and that her company has received money from India as well.

It was also reported that the employees of Priyamali’s company have been paid more than Rs.5 million a month, and investigations are currently being conducted as to how the company received these funds.

The final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala has confirmed that Secretary to the President – Nandika Sanath Kumanayake handed over the report.

CID probe launched over photo of tooth relic

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into a photo circulating on social media, allegedly showing the sacred tooth relic during the ongoing special exposition – ‘Siri Dalada Vandanawa’ in Kandy.

According to Police Headquarters, the circulating image is seemingly an image taken by a devotee who attended the exposition, which is being held until April 27.

The police emphasises that devotees are not permitted to take photos or use their phones.

In this backdrop, the CID is investigating to ascertain whether the circulating photo was indeed taken during the ‘Siri Dalada Vandanawa’ exposition, and whether it was a photo captured by someone or whether it is merely an edited image.

The CID investigation has been launched on the instructions of the Acting Inspector General of Police.

Brazilian nabbed at BIA with cocaine worth Rs. 240 mn.

A Brazilian national was arrested by the Narcotics Control Unit at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) early this (April 20) morning over attempting to smuggle nearly 05 kg of cocaine concealed in his suitcase.

The suspect is a 59-year-old Brazilian teacher and the seized cocaine (4kg and 855g) is valued around Rs. 240 million.
