Former MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena who has been accused of defaulting on tax payments of over Rs.30 million has abandoned his residence, it was revealed in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday (13).
The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has filed a case against him in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court for failing to pay income taxes.
The court had issued a summons to Mr.Gunawardena to appear in the court in connection with the case.
However, the court’s fiscal informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that although he went to the residence of the defendant in Borella to hand over the summons, he had abandoned that house.
Accordingly, the court ordered the IRD to submit any other address it may have of Mr.Gunawardena.
