Sri Lanka is to receive 20 previously used diesel locomotives from India, reports reveal.
Speaking to the media, Mr. H.M.K.W. Bandara, General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways has specified that these locomotives are being repurposed from India’s own railway system as India continues its electrification drive.
To ensure compatibility and smooth integration into the existing network, a team of Sri Lankan railway experts had recently visited India to assess the locomotives.
Two locomotives are scheduled to be imported to Sri Lanka in February and the remaining 18 locomotives are expected to arrive following their successful deployment and integration, reports add.
