Three youths sexually abuse teenage girl

A 13-year-old girl from a popular school in Nugegoda has been hospitalized after being repeatedly sexually abused by three young men, the Kirulapone Police said.

It was reported that two suspects, aged 19 and 21, who are residents of Kirulapone, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

During a funeral held near the victim’s residence in September 2022, a 23-year-old man had befriended the teenage girl.

Police investigations revealed that this man had taken the girl to the Dehiwala Beach and sexually abused her at one of the hotels in the area.

Afterwards, a 21-year-old man who is a brother of a friend residing near the girl’s house, had established a relationship with the girl. When there was no one at the girl’s house, he had visited the house and sexually abused the girl.

During a party held at the girl’s house on January 1, 2023, a 19-year-old youth who was under the influence of liquor had sexually abused the girl.

After being continuously abused by these men, she had revealed about the abuse to one of her close friends. The friend has informed the incident to the class teacher who alerted the 1929 hotline. Accordingly, the girl was brought to the police for questioning.

A special police team has been deployed to arrest the 23-year-old resident of Pussellawa who first molested the girl.

The Kirulapone Police are conducting further investigations.

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles told the police today that eliminating criminals from the country is not a sin and not to be afraid to use weapons.

He made these remarks while participating in the passing out parade at Katukurunda STF Training camp.

“Eliminating criminals from the country is not a sin. Don’t be afraid to use the weapon in your hand for the right thing and we stand by you,” the minister said.

“The police officers who had undergone the training know what to do. They know everything that is needed. If this team is not enough, another police motorcycle team will be established. We have a goal. All the police officers know what that goal is. I just want to go for that goal. I have done everything, including salary increases for all of you. I only expect you to go for the goal,” the minister further said.

The passing out parade of a team of 100 police personnel who underwent special training at the Katukurunda STF camp to go after criminals operating in the Western and Southern Provinces was held with the participation of the Minister, IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon, STF Commandant Senior DIG Waruna Jayasundara and the Western Province Senior DIG.

These trained 50 motorcycle teams commenced anti-underworld duties yesterday.

The team was given two weeks special training to respond to incidents involving gunmen committing crimes on motorcycles and take necessary action against them.
