An investigation has been launched into the theft of nearly USD 400 from the credit card of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s youngest son Rohitha (Chichi), the Narahenpita Police informed Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena yesterday (09).

Narahenpita Police OIC Chief Inspector Akila Ranasinghe reported to the court that USD 387 (Rs.150,000) was stolen from the credit card belonging to the complainant on four occasions through online transactions.

The complaint has been made by Rohitha Chandana Rajapaksa, resident of No: 117, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 07.

Mr. Rajapaksa had left his house at No: 184, Duwa Road, Baddegana, Kotte to leave for Matara on March 3, and his Sampath Bank credit card had fallen on the way.

After reporting facts to the court that the theft is an offence punishable under Section 386 of the Penal Code, the police requested to issue an order to the Headquarters Manager of Sampath Bank to submit the records of relevant bank transactions.
