Whole of Colombo at risk of blackout

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) warned that there is a risk of power supply disconnection to all the street lamps and traffic lights in Colombo since the Road Development Authority (RDA) has failed to settle the electricity bill.

The CEB said the RDA has not paid the outstanding electricity bill of Rs.15 million for nearly five months.

It was reported that the CEB has informed the RDA to settle this amount on several occasions, but no response has been received from the RDA. Reports said that there are nearly 15 accounts under the RDA and the monthly total bill of all these accounts is Rs.3 million.

CEB Sources said the electricity will be disconnected to street lamps and traffic lights if the RDA continues to default on paying bills.
